Glaciarium: the Patagonian Ice Museum, minutes from El Calafate
Glaciarium is the Patagonian Ice Museum, an interpretation center about 30 minutes from El Calafate, on the north shore of Lago Argentino. Through audiovisual and interactive rooms, the museum explains how glaciers form, the glaciation process and how the Southern Patagonian Ice Field works, one of the largest in the world outside Antarctica.
Besides the museum rooms, Glaciarium has the Glacio Bar, a bar made entirely of ice where you can have a drink served in ice glasses, inside a room several degrees below zero (the Glacio Bar has an extra fee on top of the museum ticket). It is an ideal visit to combine with the Perito Moreno Glacier excursion, before or after it.
